Discussions badges reward users for their participation and engagement in your community discussions. This article explains how to configure these specific badges with practical examples.
How to Configure Discussions Badges
When setting up Discussions badges, you can configure them based on four metrics:
- Total Discussion Points - The cumulative points a user has earned across all their discussion activities, including points for reactions received and points for creating posts.
- Posts Count - Total number of posts made in discussions
- Post Points - Points earned from creating posts
- Reactions Count - Number of reactions received on posts
📝 Note: Future updates will add "Reactions Points" as another requirement type.
🔄 Points Configuration:
All point values are customizable. You can set:
- Points for creating posts
- Points for different reactions (likes, dislikes and others)
- Positive or negative values for reactions
For detailed configuration information, refer to this article.
⚙️ Creating a Badge:
Navigate to your Badges Feature, select "Discussions" as the category, then define the requirement type and threshold value.
Example Badge Ideas:
- Discussion Newcomer - First post in discussions
- Active Commenter - 50 posts in discussions
- Community Voice - 100 total discussion points
- Community Favorite - 100 reactions received
⚠️ Important: Badges Are Permanent
Once a badge is awarded to a user, it cannot be taken away, even if their point total later falls below the threshold. For example, if a user earns a badge requiring 100 discussion points, and later receives dislikes that reduce their total below 100, they will still keep the badge. This is important to remember when configuring negative point values for certain actions like dislikes.
