Embedding POTM in WordPress Posts and Pages

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for adding Fans United Player of the Match (POTM) blocks to your WordPress content, with visual examples of the configuration process. The POTM block creates interactive voting widgets where fans can select the best player from a football match.


Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Installed and activated the Fans United Core plugin
  • Installed and activated the Fans United Mini Games plugin
  • Configured the Core plugin with your API credentials

🧩 Adding a POTM Block

1. Create or Edit a WordPress Page/Post

  • Navigate to Pages or Posts in your WordPress admin
  • Select an existing page/post to edit or click "Add New"

2. Insert the POTM Block

  • Click the "+" button in the WordPress editor to add a new block
  • Search for "Fans United Player of the Match" or locate it in the Widgets category
  • Click on the Fans United Player of the Match block to add it to your content

3. Select a Team

  • In the block settings, you'll see a search field labeled "SEARCH FOR A TEAM"
  • Type at least 3 characters to search for teams
  • Click on a team from the search results to select it

ℹ️ Note: The search will display all teams matching your query, including main teams and their associated categories (such as Real Madrid, Real Madrid C, Real Madrid U19, etc.)

4. Select a Match

  • After selecting a team, you'll see a list of recent and upcoming matches for that team
  • Matches are organized by date
  • Select the specific match you want to create a POTM voting widget for
  • Each match listing shows both teams, the scheduled date/time and competition

5. Configure Voting Window

  • Set the time period during which fans can vote for their choice of best player from the match
  • You can configure the voting to be available  between 0-168 hours after match end

6. Save and Preview

  • Click "Update" or "Publish" to save your changes
  • Use the WordPress preview function to see how your POTM voting widget appears on the page

💻 Using Shortcodes Instead of Blocks

You can also embed POTM widgets with ShortCodes. A shortcode will be automatically generated at the bottom of the block settings panel whenever you configure a POTM block.

Troubleshooting

If your POTM widget isn't displaying correctly:

  • Verify that the Fans United Core plugin is properly configured with valid API credentials
  • Ensure that the match hasn't been canceled or rescheduled
