How to Filter and Interpret User Acquisition Data

Understanding how to interpret user acquisition data is crucial for leveraging insights that drive business growth. This article will guide you through the process of analyzing data from the Users Acquired Report, focusing on some key aspects that might be confusing for users.

Time-Based Data Interpretation

The Users Acquired Report allows you to filter and view user acquisition data by different time periods, such as day, week, month, or year. However, it's important to understand how the system handles these time frames to accurately interpret the results.

1. Weekly Data Interpretation

When you filter by week, the report automatically considers a week to run from Monday to Sunday. This means that the data displayed will always align with this structure, regardless of the specific days you select.

Example Scenario:

  • Search Query: If you choose to view data from Friday, August 16th to Monday, August 19th, 2024.
  • Report Output: The report will display data for the full weeks that cover this period, specifically:
    • Week 1: August 12th - 18th, 2024
    • Week 2: August 19th - 25th, 2024

This is important to note because even if you're interested in just a few days, the report will show data for the entire weeks containing those days if you search by week. This might initially seem confusing but provides a comprehensive view of user acquisition across full weekly periods.

2. Monthly Data Interpretation

Similarly, when you filter by month, the report automatically includes data for entire calendar months.

Example Scenario:

  • Search Query: If you choose to view data from Wednesday, July 31st to Thursday, August 1st, 2024.
  • Report Output: The report will show:
    • July 2024: Data for the entire month of July
    • August 2024: Data for the entire month of August

This is because the system is designed to provide a full overview of user acquisition within these standard time periods, rather than breaking them down into smaller, custom segments when you search by Month.

3. Yearly Data Interpretation

When filtering by year, the report aggregates data for entire calendar years. This means that even if your selected date range spans just a few days across two different years, the report will display data for both entire years.

Example Scenario:

  • Search Query: If you choose to view data from Sunday, December 31st, 2023 to Monday, January 1st, 2024.
  • Report Output: The report will display:
    • Year 2023: Data for the entire year of 2023
    • Year 2024: Data for the entire year of 2024

Gender-Based Data Interpretation

In addition to filtering user acquisition data by time periods, the Users Acquired Report allows you to break down the data by gender. Understanding how to use this feature effectively can provide deeper insights into your audience demographics and help you tailor your strategies accordingly.

Filtering by Gender

When generating the report, you have the option to filter the data by four gender categories:

  1. Total Users: This option includes all users, regardless of their gender specification. It gives you an overall view of user acquisition without focusing on gender differences.
  2. Male: This filter will display data exclusively for users who have identified as male.
  3. Female: Selecting this option will show data only for users who have identified as female.
  4. Non-Specified: This category includes users who did not specify their gender during registration. Reviewing this data can offer insights into a portion of your user base that may prefer not to disclose gender, or it could indicate areas where your registration process might be streamlined to encourage more complete user profiles.

At least one of these options must be selected when generating the report. This means you can choose to view data for just one gender category or a combination of categories (e.g., both male and female, or all four categories together).
